Highway 146 and Attwater Avenue
The driver of the gold vehicle pulled directly out into the path of the truck. Engine 21 along with Medic 410 responded. Engine 33 and An engine from LaMarque were called in as Rescue 13 was still in Galveston after transported a sick call patient to UTMB.
An off duty TC Medic and several bystanders including a TCPD Officer had to pull two occupants from the vehicle as it caught fire. They tied a strap on the passenger door and collectively pulled as the flames started to reach the occupant. They opened the door and successfully removed the passenger before he was burned. Another bystander was using every available fire extinguisher to keep the flames at bay. Both occupants were removed before the arrival of Engine 21 and Engine 21's crew put the flames out.
The posted speed limit for that area is 65mph, so the car took a great impact. Life Flight was called in to fly the passenger to UTMB. The other two occupants of the car went to UTMB via a TC Ambulance. The driver of the truck was uninjured.
