Motorcycle Wreck at 2100 block of 34th Street
This happened about 2:15AM as the driver lost control on the curve. The bike slide and took out the street sign,
then hit the hydrant with the back fender/tire before coming to a rest in the grass.
The driver was thrown about 20 feet from the bike. He was not wearing a helmet.
UTMB was our closest Level One Trauma Center on Galveston (a 15 minute drive), but has been closed down due to Hurricane Ike. So we have been airlifting all trauma patients to Ben Taub in Houston, which is about an hour by ground.
Both Lifeflight and PHI were grounded last night due to high winds, so we had to transport the patient by ambulance to Herman Hospital.
This can eat up precious time for a trauma patient and also shows the trickle down effect of UTMB not opening back up.
