Bumper Guard Build
I started this Bumper Guard well before the D was raised, painted and all the other work I did to it earlier this Summer of '09.
My buddy, Rod and I do the majority of the modifications on the D in his shop.
The Guard is made out of inch and a half pipe and the skid plate is made from an aluminum 1/4" diamond plate.
The Guard was shot with Marine Enamel for durablitity. Thanks to my nieghbor Greg who had it painted for free by one of the guys he works with.
All bolts used are stainless.
Brackets for Guard |
Brackets for frame |
Tack welded into place |
Other one in place |
Fitting of the main tube. We would bend it on the pipe bender until we got it to conform with the bumper. Here is the D before the lift, tires and paint. |
Everything ready to start welding together. Aluminum plate has not been fabricated yet to fit. |
Tack welding it together. Levels on both ends keeping it all plumb with the D |
Rod welding the Guard brackets to the down tubes |
Top tube tacked in place |
Now all welded out with the 45 degree bends on each end. Grinding down the welds smooth also. |
All tabs that will hold on the skid plate and lights welded in place. Bottom bracket kept the down tubes from moving and/or drawing while welding Guard out. |
Drilled out holes in skid plate after bending and cutting it to fit the contour of the Guard. |

Frame brackets welded out |
Once I mounted the skid plate and license plate holder, it was time to bolt it on. |
FINISHED! |
